First Waiters Race Kicks Off Brighton Food Fest

Top Brighton & Hove restaurants kicked off the Brighton Food Festival with the first ever waiters race at Brighton Racecourse on 1st September at the Fun & Foodie Race Day, commentated by Simon Holt.

Aziz Ziriat, aka HaHa Hooray, from HaHa Bar & Grill, took first place, closely followed by George Fernando, aka Hardings Hero, from Hardings Catering, with Mirco Mai, aka Italian Stalion, from Hotel du Vin, coming in third place. Runners up were New Pongpipattana Chai from Sabai Thai Gastrobar, Milo Keep from Terre a Terre and Helen Colekolek from Table.

Rosettes were presented to the winners by Deputy Mayor Anne Norman in the paddock, whilst festival-goers enjoyed delicious Sussex fare served at market stalls across the racecourse.

Tonight Anthony Bourdain discusses his new book ‘Medium Raw’ at the Hilton Brighton Metropole and wine tasting sessions will be held at Hotel du Vin. Over 100 foodie events will be held across the city throughout September to celebrate local food and international flavours, with markets, picnics, street parties, tastings, banquets and an urban vegetable growing competition. Brighton & Hove city dwellers have been voting hard since March for the city’s best restaurant, cafe, food pub and food shop in the Brighton & Hove Foodie Awards, sponsored by new environmentally-friendly coffee brand ‘ecoffee’, and the winners will be announced on 4th October to round off the festival.
